Sizzling First Fridays at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum

Be a part of the First, First Friday of 2013 at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum on January 4th, 2013! Kicking off the new year of events will be the Performing Arts Center of Kapolei with PACKids & Company.

PACKids & Company is a performance ensemble with the Performing Arts Center of Kapolei. These talented young performers, ages 7-17, entertain audiences with high energy Broadway, Show Choir, Popular and Hawaiian music, under the vocal direction of award-winning artists Angela Morales and Phil Hildago. The troupe will also showcase their abilities in the dance styles of jazz, tap and hula.

Closing out 2013 with First Friday in December was the Chris Vandercook Jazz Band. This three-piece group consisting of an upright bass, drum set, and Chris himself on the guitar, sounded amazing in our Sculpture Lobby. With improvisation as a key element of jazz, it was great watching them play off of each other during their solos.

We love jazz here at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum and we would like to thank the Chris Vandercook Jazz Band for showing us a good time in December!

If you love opera, you will surely want to be at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum for First Friday, February 1st. We will be welcoming the Hawai‘i Opera Theater to stimulate our auditory systems with their angelic orations. They were here a few months ago to check the acoustics in the Sculpture Lobby and it was heavenly. More details will be coming next month, so stay tuned!

Galleries are open from 6 to 8:45 p.m. on First Friday. As the museum's supply of chairs are limited, low folding chairs and mats are recommended at the second floor open courtyard, which overlooks the newly opened Sculpture Garden. Don't miss this special treat
