O‘AHU — Two separate improvement projects for the recreation building and pool at McCully District Park are moving forward, aimed at repairing and renovating these Urban Honolulu facilities.

In November 2026 a Capital Improvement Project is set to begin to renovate the facilities of the park’s recreation building, including the: classrooms, flooring, room partitions, bathrooms, and roofing. This project will require the closure of the building for the entirety of the effort. Work is expected to be completed, and the facility reopened for public use, in Spring 2027.

In January 2027 another maintenance project for the district park’s pool is scheduled to begin. This effort involves repairing the deck surrounding the 25-yard pool. Similar to the recreation building renovations, this facility will be closed during the project but is expected to be reopened by February 2027, weather and site condition permitting.

For the recreation building project, the $140,354 consulting contract was awarded to Ushijima Architects, Inc., with the $703,000 construction contract being tasked by Starcom Builders, Inc.

The pool deck repairs are being conducted by a combination of in-house DPR maintenance staff and contracted work. The $48,000 contract was awarded to Concrete Coatings Hawai‘i, with funding assistance from Councilmember Scott Nishimoto.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while these facilities are closed for their respective renovation projects. Holding the title of being the smallest of the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation’s 27 district parks, occupying 1.43 acres of space, McCully District Park was opened as a City park in June 1943. Small but mighty, it features: a gymnasium, pool, basketball court, playground, two-floor recreation building, and covered parking along Pumehana Street.
