City again named one of Hawai‘i's Best-In-State Employers by Forbes

HONOLULU -- The City and County of Honolulu has once again been recognized by Forbes as one of Hawaiʻi's Best-In-State Employers, earning the No. 1 ranking in Government Services and No. 5 overall statewide for 2026. This marks the eighth consecutive year the City has appeared on the prestigious list.

"This recognition belongs to the thousands of City employees who dedicate themselves every day to serving the people of Oʻahu," said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. "Whether responding to emergencies, maintaining our parks and roads, keeping our communities safe, processing permits, or providing countless other essential services, our employees are the reason this organization continues to be recognized as one of Hawaiʻi's best places to work. I could not be more proud of what they accomplish together."

The recognition reflects the City's continued commitment to fostering a workplace where employees are supported, empowered, and equipped to succeed. Over the past several years, the City has strengthened recruitment and retention efforts by modernizing its hiring process, expanding professional development opportunities, offering flexible work arrangements where appropriate, and continuing to invest in competitive employee benefits and compensation.

Those efforts have helped attract and retain a talented workforce dedicated to improving quality of life for Oʻahu residents while delivering more responsive and efficient government services.

The annual Forbes Best-In-State Employers rankings are compiled in partnership with market research firm Statista and are based on independent, anonymous employee surveys. Participants evaluate their employers on criteria including workplace environment, compensation, opportunities for advancement, diversity, and their willingness to recommend their employer to others.
