Exhibition September 29 - October 24, 2026Tuesday - Sunday 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Entry Deadline:
Entries must be received by HWS no later than Friday, August 7, 2026, 5 p.m. HST
Please read the entire Prospectus for information you will need to enter the show.

This juried exhibition will be displayed at the Downtown Art Center (DAC), 1041 Nu’uanu Avenue, 2nd Floor Gallery, Honolulu, Hawai’i. Additionally, the exhibit will have companion online exposure on this website and at DAC (Downtown Art Center
www.downtownarthi.org.

This show will be for water-soluble media, including transparent watercolor, gouache, casein, acrylics, water-soluble crayons, and water-soluble pencils. (See the Prospectus for more details.)

All artists are invited to submit work to the 2026 Open Exhibit, subject to the exhibit’s specifications. Hawai’i Watercolor Society members enjoy a lower entry fee than non-members. If you are not currently a member of the Hawai’i Watercolor Society, you may join before submitting your entries to the exhibit. The annual membership fee is $40 dollars per year. Juror Info: Frank Eber - Fine Artist Profile
Frank grew up in Europe and apprenticed with Italian master painter Renato Casaro in the 90’s. In the 80’s and 90’s, Frank worked as a professional illustrator for video cover sleeves.

He strives to create timeless art in both oil and water media and works in a direct, loose style influenced by the Old World Masters and Impressionists.
Frank is an award-winning artist and Signature member of the American Impressionist Society (AIS) and the American Watercolor Society (AWS) in New York. He is a juried Artist member of the prestigious California Art Club. Frank conducts workshops and classes locally and at the national and international levels.

The Juror is contracted by HWS to act as an independent arbiter of the works presented to them for selection into the 2026 Open Exhibit. The juror is tasked with both jurying works into the Exhibit and selecting artwork to be awarded recognition. Being an independent contractor, the juror is free to use both objective and subjective criteria typically employed by those serving as jurors of art exhibits. They are afforded independent opinions. Their decision is final, except for work found not to comply with the Prospectus at any stage of the Exhibit, including after decisions have been rendered by the juror. The juror is to be afforded full courtesy and respect throughout the process by all artists participating in every phase of the exhibit.

The Hawaii Watercolor Society is open to anyone interested in the art of watercolor. Our mission is to nurture and stimulate interest in water media through education, exhibitions, and collaboration with other organizations, associations, and individuals.

All HWS members receive a monthly newsletter in the mail. The HWS Newsletter is a great source of information for shows, watercolor workshops, paint outs, and exhibitions.

MEMBERSHIP
Annual membership dues are $40 dollars a year. To join us, please download membership application form print out, fill in and mail with enclosed check.

HISTORY
The Hawaii Watercolor Society was founded in 1962 by Hon Chew Hee. He was honored as Artist of the Year by the Hawaii State Legislature in 1986. In 1987, the Society dedicated it's 25th Silver Jubilee Exhibition to him. Given Honorary Life Membership in recognition of his service to the society, Hon Chew Hee passed away in 1993. In his memory, a Best in Show award is given at the biannual Hawaii Watercolor Society's shows.

In 1991, in recognition of their long service to our organization, HWS gave Honorary Life Membership status to Karin Latham and Jeanne Robertson.

In 2004, in recognition of their long service as Workshop Chairs, HWS gave Honorary Life Membership status to Helen C. Iaea and Rita J. Gustie.
