Gallery On The Pali is inside the Unitarian Church at 2500 Pali Highway in Honolulu.
The public is invited to a reception to view w
ater color paintings and meet Linda Umstead on March 7th, 2026, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. At this reception she will have additional art work available for purchase.

Linda Umstead says “The works in this show are ‘off the wall’ because they are part of my personal collection which were displayed in my home. I hope you will enjoy them too. Many thanks for taking the time to look them over. Watercolor is my medium of choice. I have been doing it for about 15 years and it always amazes me. To achieve mastery is the ultimate artistic challenge, in my opinion.”

“In watercolor, the medium is the master and the artist is the pupil. Every effort is a lesson which produces surprises and unexpected results. Often I am not sure until later whether my present work is a success or a failure.”
Umstead paints in her own studio at home and at Ho’omaluhia Gardens workshop. She finds the presence of other artists an inspiration and a joy in sharing this challenge. Her favorite subjects are landscapes and botanicals, birds and animals, her travels and the natural world. She frequently paints ‘alla prima’ which means ‘all at once’ or ‘at the first attempt.’ This means she does not use pencil to guide her, she just picks up her brush and paints.

Linda Umstead has exhibited her fine water color paintings at many Oah’u locations:

Haleiwa Arts Festival
Association of Hawai’i Artist shows
Hawai’i Watercolor Society member shows
Honolulu Country Club shows
Ho’omaluhia Gallery shows, Kaneohe
Windward Artist Guild shows
Honolulu Museum of Art School
Multiple shows at Marks Garage Gallery
Gallery on the Pali, Honolulu
