James McCarthy: Songs of Hope and ResistanceSaturday, August 9 from 5-7 p.m. in the 1st Floor Studio 1C. $10 per person, online or at the door.In "Raise Your Voice: Songs of Hope and Resistance," veteran Honolulu singer/songwriter James McCarthy revisits powerful, time-honored songs of resistance, protest, and community, drawn from a lifetime in music and personal encounters with legends like Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Phil Ochs, and Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon of Sweet Honey in the Rock. Expect classics, contemporary songs, and and many favorites to get you in the groove and singing along, all led with the evocative and engaging style of a master performer.

Upcoming Exhibition: 2025 Hawaii Watercolor Society Open ExhibitOn view in the Main Gallery, July 29 - August 23, 2025This exhibition will feature 62 gorgeous water media paintings by 51 artists, selected by juror Gary Tucker.A free demonstration by the juror will take place on Sunday, July 27, from 2-4 p.m. at DAC, with the exhibition's Opening Reception scheduled for Friday, August 1, from 5-8 p.m.

From the HEART: A Celebration of Honolulu's Historic Downtown NeighborhoodThis September 2025, Downtown Art Center (DAC) presents From the HEART, a two-day celebration of our vibrant, historically-important neighborhood and its creative community!Hosted in partnership with resident historian Gary Coover and the Fort Street Mall Business Improvement District, the event also marks DAC’s 5-year anniversary.Day 1 – Friday, September 26: An evening arts market in Wilcox Park at Fort Street Mall will feature food vendors, live music, historical exhibits, and a scavenger hunt highlighting local landmarks. The event aims to engage and inform the community about the rich, vibrant history of Honolulu’s historic Downtown district.
    Day 2 – Saturday, September 27: Daytime activities at DAC for its 5th Anniversary will include a plein air timed outdoor painting competition focused on scenes from Downtown and Chinatown, along with live music, interactive art experiences, and celebratory treats.As part of the festivities, vacant storefronts along Bethel Street will be revitalized with painted murals and custom historical window displays that share the rich heritage
    of the neighborhood.
