Downtown Shop Around, A Fun Event to Support Honolulu’s Small Business Retailers,  Kicks Off in Chinatown on Black Friday, November 24, Through Christmas Eve, December 24
 

Honolulu (November 2023) – It's almost the holiday season, and Downtown Art Center is excited to participate in a local community event that is driven by and supports small local businesses in Honolulu’s Chinatown.
Downtown Shop Around, which is set to run from Black Friday, November 24, through Christmas Eve, December 24, 2023, aims to make the Chinatown neighborhood a destination for holiday shopping, dining and groovy holoholo fun!
The last Downtown Shop Around was held in 2019. The community event, organized by local business owners
Camille Heung of Valia Honolulu, Roberta Oaks of Roberta Oaks Hawai‘i, Nicole Reid of Manifest Hawaiʻi, and Cindy Yokoyama of GINGER13, is a great opportunity for shoppers and diners to discover Honolulu’s Chinatown district, and get special deals, promotions, and exclusive swag throughout the holiday season. Shoppers won’t want to miss this year’s collectible shopping tote bag gift designed by local artist Druscilla Santiago of Adventure Fun Club, available at participating retailers starting on Black Friday with purchase of $50 or more. This year’s tote bags have been generously sponsored by American Savings Bank

Special deals and events happening during Downtown Shop Around include the following: 
Valia Honolulu will be starting Black Friday deals on Monday, November 20, online and in-store, with sale prices up to 70% off, and a special tote bag gift with purchase, designed by Laulima Hawai‘i, available for customers who spend $100 or more.
GINGER13 will have a Black Friday Weekend of storewide sales and a Small Business Saturday Pop Up on November 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with I.A.M. Jewelry and Creations, Maka Uliuli Pearl Jewelry, and Tarot readings with Riana from RST Alchemy. 
Roberta Oaks Hawai‘i will be offering storewide discounts all day on Friday, November 24, and a special Black Friday Aloha Shirt Release. Follow along on the @robertaoakshawaii Instagram, or join their mailing list for up-to-date information. 
DAC Art & Gifts Shop will be offering special, one-of-a-kind handmade coconut frond and lauhala Christmas ornaments made by the women at Waipahu Safe Haven, a nonprofit center which provides services to a variety of migrant and immigrant populations, the majority of which are Marshallese and Chuukese families.
Tea at 1024 is offering 25% off all tea accessories from now through the end of December. 
Honolulu Printmakers will be holding an Annual Holiday Sale, Friday December 1 from 3-9 p.m. and Saturday, December 2  from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a great selection of beautiful original art and gift prints created by local printmakers. On December 3, Honolulu Printmakers will also be offering a public Print Experience workshop from 6-8 p.m., with volunteers leading a class on  ‘Ohe Kāpala, or  bamboo stamp printing on paper, for the cost of $5 per piece of paper.
Retail hours for select participating downtown shops are
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Black Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Small Business Saturday. Select participating retailers will also be extending hours on First Friday, Dec 1st, remaining open until 8 p.m.
