Kapolei Satellite City Hall testing out new hours

HONOLULU – The busiest satellite city hall on Oʻahu will be extending its business hours at least through the end of 2023, starting Monday, Sept. 18.

The extended business hours at Kapolei Satellite City Hall will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday as part of a pilot program in which the nine employees at the location will be adjusting their work schedules to four-days a week, 10-hour days, and have three days off.

All motor vehicle registration, U.S. passport intake and the other services at the Kapolei Satellite City Hall will be available an hour earlier in the morning, and an hour later in the evening every day of the week during the three-month trial period of the employees’ four-day, 10-hour work week pilot program.

The exceptions will be the Veterans’ Day and Thanksgiving Day holidays in November, and Christmas Day in December, when the Kapolei Satellite City Hall’s business hours will revert back to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for specifically those weeks.  Bookings on the city’s AlohaQ appointment reservation system will be adjusted accordingly.

“We’re proud to be involved in testing out a four-day workweek, and look forward to seeing an increase in wellness for our team, along with expanded hours and a continuous level of service that exceeds expectations,” said Kim Hashiro, director of the city’s Department of Customer Services.

The extended business hours will be offered only at the satellite city hall location in Kapolei, where 124,000-plus motor vehicle and other transactions were completed in fiscal year 2023, which ended June 30, when the Kapolei Satellite City Hall also collected more than $23.4 million in revenues for the City and County of Honolulu.

All other satellite city halls will continue to operate their normal business hours. For information on the business hours of satellite city halls, visit
