DOWNTOWN ART CENTER PRESENTS THE HEART OF HONOLULU ART FESTIVAL, A FAMILY-FRIENDLY BLOCK PARTY IN CHINATOWN, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2022

Honolulu (September 2022) – Celebrate the arts, culture, and good food as you walk, shop, and eat your way around the Chinatown Arts District. Downtown Art Center is proud to present the HEART of Honolulu Street Festival, a family-friendly, daytime art festival that will close Nuʻuanu Avenue, from King Street to Chaplain Lane, to traffic, and open it to pedestrians, allowing the community to participate in a showcase of local art, live local music, food, crafts, and more. The festival takes place on Saturday, October 8, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

HEART is an acronym that stands for Heritage, Entertainment, Arts & Culture, Restaurants, and Theatre & Performing Arts. Together, these elements make up the core of the vibrant creative community that exists in Honolulu's Bethel and Nuʻuanu Avenue district, between King Street and Beretania Avenue.

Participating artists, arts organizations, nonprofits and local businesses include, but are not limited to:

  • The ARTS at Marks Garage
  • Better Blocks Hawaiʻi
  • Chinese Chamber of Commerce

One highlight of the street festival will be the return of the PRINT BIG project by local Chinatown artist and printmaker Sergio Garzon. Intended to break down the barriers between the studio, the gallery, and the public by taking the artistic process onto the street, the project involves making giant wood block prints as big as 750 square feet, printed with the aid of a pavement roller.

On the Pauahi Street entertainment stage, enjoy live music by Absolute Joy (Joy Waikoloa and Arex Ikehara), ESD: Every Single Day (Brian Chang, Mike Chung, Kyke Oyasato and Terry Oyama) and Stepsons of Soul (Kata Maduli, Kevin Hirasa and Kapono Naʻiliʻili). In addition, don’t miss performances by the young performing artists of PAPA Hawaiʻi, and other surprises!

Mahalo to our sponsors, the City and County of Honolulu, HomeStreet Bank, and Island Insurance Foundation.
