Ala Moana Satellite City Hall temporarily halts HOLO card service

HONOLULU – Ala Moana Satellite City Hall is temporarily suspending HOLO card service to customers who use the cards to get around O‘ahu on TheBus.

The suspension takes effect Thursday, July 21.

In the meantime, HOLO card service remains available at eight other satellite city halls on O‘ahu. Among them are the three closest in proximity to Ala Moana Satellite City Hall: the Downtown Satellite City Hall; the Kapālama Satellite City Hall; and the Hawai‘i Kai Satellite City Hall.

The other five are: Pearlridge Satellite City Hall; Kapolei Satellite City Hall; Windward City Satellite City Hall; Waiʻanae Satellite City Hall; and Wahiawā Satellite City Hall.

Walk-in service for HOLO cards at satellite city halls is strictly for reloading. Appointments are required for an initial purchase of the HOLO card, which is a more time-consuming and complex transaction at satellite city halls.

Walk-in customers make up the majority of the 5,790 HOLO card transactions processed in the past fiscal year at the Ala Moana Satellite City Hall. The issue is that walk-in customers are requesting HOLO card service that requires an appointment.

“It is necessary to temporarily redirect this service while we adjust operations to more efficiently manage demand for the service at Ala Moana Satellite City Hall,” said Kim Hashiro, director of the city’s Department of Customer Services.
