Kapi`olani Community College traces its be-ginnings to the year 1946 as do its community partners including; Architects of Hawai`i (AHL), Mauna Loa Chocolates, Mary Star of the Sea, and Kaimuki Business Professional Association (KBPA).

So, what was Hawai`i like for these fledgling institutions and businesses in 1946? Imagine, it was just one year after World War II ended and Hawai`i was undergoing some significant transformations.

The Kaimuki Business and Professional Association is a community organization serving businesses, residents, visitors and the community-at-large for 75 years. The 3 presenters will describe the legacy of the association and the community it serves.

CALVIN HARA
PANELIST

Calvin Hara grew up in Kaimuki, attended Waialae Elementary School, Kaimuki Intermediate School and graduated from Kalani High School, lived in California, and presently works in Kaimuki. His career has been in senior care and he volunteers for various organizations. Calvin is currently the president of the Kaimuki Business and Professional Association.

PANELIST

Dori Baba works for the Oahu Economic Development Board (OEDB) since 2007
as the Operations Manager. OEDB is a non-pro t organization, funded primarily by the private sector, contracts and the Asset Management of New Markets Tax Credit. The organization’s e orts support a healthy economy on Oahu by being a leading agent in the growth, retention and recruitment of businesses that support appropriate jobs for the people of Hawai‘i.

BECKY GARDENER
PANELIST

Becky Gardner is the Owner and Principal of Policy Matters LLC, a government advocacy and consulting rm; and Vectress Fitness, a health and wellness business. Gardner is a licensed attorney in Hawai`i and New York, has 14 years of experience in state government, and serves on the Board of KBPA.
