DOWNTOWN ART CENTER ANNOUNCES SEPTEMBER ART EXHIBITION: HAWAII WATERCOLOR SOCIETY 2021 OPEN SHOW AND LITTLE PICTURE SHOW

Please note: There will be no First Friday reception this month

This September, Downtown Art Center at 1041 Nuʻuanu Ave, Second Floor, in Chinatown Gateway Plaza, welcomes Hawaiʻi Watercolor Society (HWS) for a month-long exhibition of beautiful artwork as part of their juried 2021 Open Show and popular Little Picture Show. Both exhibitions will be open to public viewing from Tuesday, August 31 to Saturday, September 18, from 12 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. There will be no First Friday reception this month.

The juror for the HWS 2021 Open Show is San Diego-based Keiko Tanabe, who has worked as a professional artist since 2005. She is a sought-after workshop instructor who has successfully completed more than 230 workshops. Her work has been exhibited and placed in collections around the world; her paintings have been published in leading art magazines in the U.S., Europe, and Japan. The Little Picture Show, traditionally one of Hawaii Watercolor Society's most popular exhibitions, is an accessible cash-and-carry exhibition of small works by active HWS members. This non-juried, non-curated show is limited to 35 artists working with any type of water-based medium, including but not limited to to transparent watercolor, acrylics, Posca markers, gouache, crayons, pencils, or pastels. The maximum outside dimensions of these works must be no more than 108 square inches.
