Senior HOLO cards available at all Satellite City Halls on Oʻahu

Example of Senior HOLO Card

HONOLULU - The City and County of Honolulu's Department of Transportation Services (DTS) is reminding the public that Senior HOLO cards are available at all Satellite City Hall locations across Oʻahu. The HOLO card delivers added convenience and “best fare” extra value for TheBus riders

Since July 1, TheBus paper passes have been replaced with the HOLO electronic fare card. HOLO cards can be loaded with money or a pass online or at select retail locations to board TheBus. Like paper bus passes, Senior HOLO cards are available for riders 65 and older with valid identification. Seniors can visit both TheBus Pass Office at the Kalihi Transit Center, or Satellite City Halls to pick up a HOLO card.

For Seniors, pricing is as follows:

One-way fare: $1.00
Daily fare: $2.00
Monthly fare: $6.00
Annual fare: $35.00

Expanded fare-capping has also been introduced on Senior HOLO cards, and will not pay more than $2.00 daily or $6.00 monthly. After a fare is paid with a HOLO card, no additional fares will be deducted for additional rides on the bus within a 2.5-hour period. Passengers still have the option of paying with cash for one-way trips only on TheBus.

The HOLO card can be registered under the owner’s name, and loaded with funds to pay for TheBus rides. The card can be loaded with funds online, at TheBus Pass Office, or select retail outlets. A simple tap on the HOLO card reader (located near TheBus drivers and farebox) lets both the driver and rider know that they have paid their fare or used a transfer or pass, and can board TheBus. The convenience of a registered HOLO card account allows for balance protection against lost or stolen cards, reduces the need to keep track of paper passes, and can be automatically re-loaded when funds run low.
