HAWAII CRAFTSMEN’S RAKU HOʻOLAULEʻA AND THE PLEIN AIR PAINTERS OF OAHU PRESENT “OUT IN THE ELEMENTS" AT THE DOWNTOWN ART CENTER, JUNE 30-JULY 31

Hawaii Craftsmen’s Raku Ho’olaule’a and The Plein Air Painters of Oʻahu will present a unique collaborative exhibition of Raku ceramics and Plein Air paintings created outdoors by Hawaii artists at the new Downtown Art Center in Chinatown. The show will feature work by members of the two artist organizations.

The exhibition will open on Wednesday, June 30 and continue through Saturday, July 31. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. It will be presented in the Downtown Art Center’s 2nd floor exhibition hall, 1041 Nu’uanu Avenue, in downtown Honolulu.

Special activities include

A First Friday opening reception on Friday, July 2 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the gallery.
A Community Kiln event on Saturday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The ARTS at Marks Garage, where children and adults can glaze raku tea bowls and have them fired by volunteer potters.
Additional workshops and demonstrations will also be held in the gallery during the exhibition.

Hawai’i Craftsmen’s Raku Ho’olaule’a, founded in 1977, is an annual outdoor community ceramics festival that promotes and teaches Raku pottery traditions that date back to16th century Japan. The Plein Air Painters of Oʻahu is a casual group of painters who meet regularly to paint “in the open air” at various sites around the island — including at past Raku Ho’olaule’a festivals — to share inspiration, friendship and aloha.
