What's New in December at
The ARTS at Marks Garage

Aloha Mai Kākou–

I hope that you’re all having a happy holiday season at the end of this very difficult year.  As you know, we’re open to the public (with appropriate sanitation and distancing precautions in place), and it’s been wonderful to see some of you back in our space!

In the spirit of 2020, two of our offerings this month celebrate resilience and joy in difficult times.  Our current gallery exhibit,
New Normal, celebrates the ability to find beauty and art even in the midst of a pandemic.  And on December 23, we’ll be offering a FREE showing of the 1946 holiday classic It’s A Wonderful Life, with popcorn and sodas available during the show.  Although the event is free, seating is limited; so please take a moment to register on Eventbrite and reserve your seats.

In the meantime, we’ve decorated our performance space and invited some of our friends and artistic partners to set up
pop-up shops offering art, cards, clothing, and one-of-a-kind items.  Come by this weekend to pick up some memorable last-minute gifts for your friends and family — you can find a list of vendors on our website! And if you missed Storytime with Aunty Ualani this month, don’t worry: you can always go to our Facebook page and see Aunty read The Hawaiian Christmas Mouse for kids of all ages and families of all kinds.  You can even hear the song that the story is based on before Aunty reads the book!

Finally, if you’re looking for somewhere to direct your holiday giving, you can’t beat our
1001 Friends program.  You can donate once, or set up a monthly payment; your generosity will help to provide a steady income for ARTS@MARKS operations — and help us gear up for what we know will be an exciting 2021!

Thank you for all of your support for The ARTS at Marks Garage in 2020.  Wishing you health, safety, and joy in this holiday season, and a very happy new year!

Storytime with Aunty Ualani

Coming to our
Facebook Live stream every second Saturday at 12:30 p.m. is Honolulu drag queen Aunty Ualani with a special online storytime series for children of all ages.
Tune in on our Facebook feed on Saturday, January 9 for “Hoʻonani: Hula Warrior” written by Heather Gale, and illustrated by former Honolulu resident Mika Song. The book is an empowering celebration of identity, acceptance and Hawaiian culture based on the true story of a young girl in Hawaiʻi who dreams of leading the boys-only hula troupe at her school.
