Park renaming highlights history of Souza Dairy Park

Windward park location formerly known as Kaluapuhi Neighborhood Park

KĀNE‘OHE – A blessing and new signage will help convey the history of a Windward park to future generations, as Kaluapuhi Neighborhood Park was renamed to Souza Dairy Park today.

From 1943 to 1972, this 5.79-acre parcel was the site of the Souza Brothers Dairy, a local, family-owned business which housed up to 300 milk cows producing nearly 1,500 gallons of milk per day.

In May 1973, the family sold the land to the City and County of Honolulu for $475,000, making the land available to the community as a public park.

Today’s renaming resulted from
City Council Resolution 20-041, introduced by former City Council Chair Ikaika Anderson, who represented the area.

Nestled in a residential area of Kāne‘ohe at 45-170 Keana Road, Souza Dairy Park features a variety of park amenities including play courts, open fields, a play apparatus, and bathroom facilities.
