Aloha Mai Kākou–

Honolulu's second lockdown is over, and here at the gallery, we're starting to gear up for the coming months with new shows and events.  Our goal is to bring energy and excitement to our space — and to the Chinatown area!

If you celebrate Halloween – or even if you just like off-beat clothes and costumes – I encourage you to come to our ARTS at Marks Garage Sale this weekend, during business hours on Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10.  We’re featuring costumes in honor of the holiday, but we have plenty of other interesting items to check out as well!

Our current gallery exhibit features our artistic partner
Hawai‘i Watercolor Society with their annual Little Picture Show.  Although HWS is the presenter and the show is largely watercolors, the exhibit also includes acrylics, collage, and three-dimensional pieces as well.  All of the pieces reflect the quality for which the Watercolor Society is known, and the show features terrific small pieces that would make great gifts for friends or family — or for yourself!  The show runs through October 24, so come down and take a look!

The HWS show will be immediately followed by the two-day
Heritage Art Show, presented by guest curator Satarra Leona of Arts in Color.  This show is a special event with an evening reception from 5 - 8 p.m. on Friday, November 6 and viewing during regular gallery hours from 12 pm - 5 pm on Saturday, November 7, so make plans now to come and see it!

Finally, if you’re a dance fan, I encourage you to check out the
WildDogs International Screendance Festival on October 24, featuring some spectacular dance-focused film.  Seating will be safely distanced, of course, with masks required and hand sanitizer required — we want to keep you safe while we bring you innovative and exciting work!

I encourage you, if you can, to check out our
1,001 Friends support program.  Your support is always invaluable, and especially during these crazy times.

Sending you best wishes for a healthy and safe October.  Mahalo!!
