Driver license and state ID appointments now offered six months in advance

O‘ahu residents can now make an appointment to renew a driver license or state identification card up to 120 days in advance.

Introduced in April 2018, the appointment system used to offer appointments 75 days in advance. The new timeframe offers residents more appointment slots to renew or replace a driver license or state ID at ten locations across O‘ahu, where driver licenses and state IDs can be renewed six months before they expire.

"We needed to ensure that this system worked well before extending appointments too far in advance," said Customer Services Director Sheri Kajiwara. "Right now, more than 70 percent of driver license and state ID transactions are being done by appointment. Our end goal is to make appointments the standard process for renewals, with limited walk-in service to accommodate emergencies or special conditions."

To make an appointment, go online and visit AlohaQ.org. With an appointment, a visit to a driver licensing center or satellite city hall can be completed in approximately 20 minutes. The average wait for a walk-in customer can be much longer. Locations and hours for driver licensing centers or satellite city halls are listed at honolulu.gov/CSD.

Approximately 400 appointment slots across O‘ahu are available every day to renew or replace a driver license or state ID. To be successful on the first visit, be sure to have all required documents on hand, including a completed application form that must be presented at the time of the appointment. For a list of documents, visit honolulu.gov/CSD.
