Happy March!
We are making S.T.E.M. into S.T.E.A.M. this month— watching the magic that happens when Science and Technology intersect with the Arts. In recent years, schools have focused on improving performance in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. However, the Arts develop neural systems that produce a broad spectrum of benefits ranging from fine motor skills to creativity, communication, problem-solving, and improved emotional balance.
S.T.E.M. subjects have historically been dominated by boys— but times are definitely changing. This month, we are also celebrating International Women’s Day.
We have kick-ass women scientists and artists bringing you the interactive gallery exhibit, SymbioSEAS, Connecting Science, Education, Art, and Society through Coral Reefs. SymbioSEAS represents a group of 40+ scientists and artists who have worked together over the past year to bring global awareness to the health & rehabilitation of our oceans and coral reef through cultivation of a gallery that showcases coral ecosystems research through various 2-D and 3-D mediums.
Queen Mabsy from Cherry Blossom Cabaret will lead “The Suffragettes” on International Women’s Day. “The Suffragettes” is a multi media dance performance variety show featuring feminine performers from many genres and backgrounds of performing arts and dance. Inspired by the suffragist movement of over 100 years ago, celebrating how far we’ve come while also reflecting on how much farther we still need to go.
And O’ahu Fringe favorite, Dr. Dodgy, will reprise his spectacular Intergalactic Auto-Mechanical Circus and bring his high tech tomfoolery to entertain us all.
At the ARTS at Marks, we know that the Arts are essential. Come down and help us put some “A” into S.T.E.M. and make some S.T.E.A.M.
