ABOUT PASTEL ARTISTS OF HAWAII
Pastel Artists of Hawaii (PAH) is an educational, publicly/member supported, non-profit organization, established in 2001 to primarily promote awareness of soft pastel as a serious art medium, and secondarily, to develop and maintain a national society standing. To reach these goals, we sponsor an annual open-juried exhibition each year, in which an invited, experienced artist juries, presents awards and teaches an educational workshop.
As a well-known local pastel/watercolor artist, Helen C. Iaea had longed for a society that was dedicated to the above principles. Encouraged and supported by many of her students, she completed the difficult work of organizing the society in 2001, and thus became it's first president. Now a director of PAH, Helen is an also an associate member of the Pastel Society of America.
PAH periodically sponsors seminars and local workshops, such as those given by Pastel Society of America members Alan Flattmann, Gregory Biolchini, Maggie Price, Richard McKinley, Desmond O'Hagan, Jason Chang, Colette Odya Smith, Sally Strand, Terry Ludwig and Mark Norseth, a Hawaii resident. All this requires funding and in this regard, we encourage membership and accept donations.
PAH's annual juried exhibition is open to all, members and non-members alike, with only a small fee-based difference. Awards are given for the best works not only to reward, but also to encourage artists to do their best.
Become a member of PAH! As a member, you will receive a subscription to the "Pastel Paper" newsletter, a listing in and access to the PAH directory of members, a membership card that gives you access to a 10% supply discount at Hawaiian Graphics and an opportunity to interact with other artists. Membership also includes full access to all areas of PAH's online site, pastelartistsofhawaii.org, which includes the Members Only Section, links to pastel shows, workshops, demos, classes, other pastel organization sites , PAH member sites, a member gallery page for your own paintings and a personal email address.
As a member, you will be encouraged to participate by volunteering to enter and help in any of PAH's events and/or positions. Your active participation should help in furthering your career in the arts.
