The 12th official HawaiiSlam season rolls on with its monthly qualifiers at First Thursdays (February 5th, 2015). The top two poets will qualify for the HawaiiSlam Finals in April 2015 that will determine the team to represent Hawai`i at the 2015 National Poetry Slam in Oakland, California.

The special feature for this show is Ebony Stewart, a three-time Slam Champion in Austin Texas who has shared stages with Buddy Wakefield and the late Amri Baraka. She also coached the Neo-Soul slam team finishing 1st place in Group Piece Finals in 2012, the Austin Poetry Slam team leading them to 5th place in 2013 at the National Poetry Slam, and the TheySpeak Poetry Slam team finishing top 8 in the world at Brave New Voices in 2014. Ebony writes because she has to, teaches Sex Education for a living and eats cupcakes for fun. She is currently on her RISE! Tour, promoting sexual health, body image and healthy relationships through performance and workshops.Ê As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will also feature live painters and a guest DJ who will provide turntable sorcery throughout the evening.

-- A spotlight performance by Sarah Kay, who has shared her work at the 2011 TED Conference in Long Beach, California; the Malthouse Theater in Melbourne, Australia; The Royal Danish Theater in Copenhagen, Denmark, among hundreds of other venues. Her books, B (Domino Project, 2011) and No Matter the Wreckage (Write Bloody Publishing, 2014) are both consistently top-ranked bestselling poetry books.Ê
-- An official qualifier for the 2014-2015 HawaiiSlam season.Ê Normal slam rules apply, and the top two poets will advance to the 2015 Grand Slam Finals (on April 2nd, 2015) that will determine HawaiiSlam's 12th National Poetry Slam team.
-- Turntable Sorcery by DJ Toki (Sisters in Sound)
-- Live painting by the resident artists (past artists include Solomon Enos, Erin McCullough, Kimi Werner, The Storekeeper, Dhyana Zagri, Stanstill, Nabahe, Wes Ka'uhane, Neal Uno, Pancho Abalos, Mike Fresh, Manny P, Patti Bruce, Aaron Char, Mark Agnir, Jeff Lum, Samantha Goldman, Earl Washington, Clinton "Clean" Haness, Sequoia, Carol Tagawa, TJ Howe, Nikila Badua, Jeremiah Skurtu, Sarah Hodges, Hanam Mun, Risa Oram, and Melissa Soriano)
