FIRST THURSDAYS: $100 NATIONALLY CERTIFIED SLAM POETRY COMPETITION AND OPEN MIC... An evening of performance poetry, music, and live art hosted by Kealoha. Featuring Natasha T. Miller (Women of The World Finalist). Winner of the night receives $100. LOCATION: Fresh Cafe, 831 Queen Street (@ intersection with Cooke Street), Thursday 1/8/2015, 8:30pm. Admission is $3 before 8:30pm, and $5 after. PRESS RELEASE:
The 12th official HawaiiSlam season rolls on with its monthly qualifiers at First Thursdays (January 8th, 2015). The top two poets will qualify for the HawaiiSlam Finals in April 2015 that will determine the team to represent Hawai`i at the 2015 National Poetry Slam in Newark, New Jersey.

The special feature for this show is Natasha T. Miller, a three-time Women of The World Poetry Slam finalist and member of four national slam teams. She has starred in a national commercial campaign for Sprite, and has premiered on stages with performers such as Mo'nique, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Jessica Care Moore, Talib Kweli, Charlyne Yi, and many more. She has published two books, has been on three national tours, and has performed at renowned venues all across the country. As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will also feature live painters and a guest DJ who will provide turntable sorcery throughout the evening.
