Ready? Set? GO! Yarn Bombing by the fuzz brings delightful spectacle to Chinatown

ArchiPURLago noticed one day that if you look at a BikeBike rack from a particular angle, the wheels can spell out "GO". She's shared that perspective by knitting up a Ready? Set? GO! bike rack sweater, and most recently, in a collaboration with granny2, suggesting that we GO green at The ARTS at Marks. The GO green BikeBike sweater features leaves, a tree, and a "wooden" handle, all knit, crocheted, and embroidered by hand. TheFUZZ Hawai'i, a yarnbombing crew based on O'ahu, plans to continue keeping our bike racks warm.

Why call ourselves "the fuzz"? We like making things warm and fuzzy! As a loosely knit group of yarncrafters and artists, we bring a variety of perspectives and techniques to yarn graffiti.

What is yarn bombing? Also known as yarn storming or guerilla knitting, this is a relatively recent form of street art that uses handcrafted knit or crochet fabrics instead of paint.

Why do we use yarn? Knit and crochet fabrics have a stretchiness that makes it easier to fit around things, and is also fairly easy to shape pieces to fit. It is easy to install, but more importantly, also easy to remove and won't damage most surfaces. We also believe that street art doesn't have to be cold and gritty - we like bringing a friendly, affectionate warmth to our cities.

We do our best to consider the safety and utility of what we are yarnbombing, and to be good neighbors, keeping an eye on the yarnbombs and repairing, replacing, or removing pieces as needed to keep things clean and tidy. The supplies we use are often donated or thrifted, and yarns made with synthetic fibers that don't break down quickly are only used for pieces that are firmly secured.
