Compassion in Art Fact Sheet

Aloha Harvest is a non-profit organization that rescues quality, excess food and delivers it free of charge to social service agencies feeding the hungry of Hawai`i.

Competition

Who: Competition is open to ages 11-18 years old

When: Submissions must be delivered by October 11th at 12 noon

Where: Aloha Harvest Office, 3599 Waialae Avenue #23 in Kaimuki

What: All mediums will be accepted but must coincide with the theme "Compassion towards the Needy, Hungry or Homeless"

Why: To instill compassion in the younger generation for those who are in need

Cost: There is no cost to enter the contest

Prizes will be awarded in each category

Exhibition & Awards Ceremony

Who: Open to the public and all participating artists are encouraged to attend

Exhibition: Tuesday, October 15th-Friday October 18th, noon-5pm daily

Awards: Wednesday, October 16th, 2013 at 6:00 -- 9:00 pm

Where: The ARTS at Marks Garage, 1159 Nu`uanu Ave. Honolulu

Why: To display selected artwork and to recognize the finalists and winners

Cost: Bring a canned food donation or donate $5/person at the door

All donations will go directly to support the mission of Aloha Harvest

In 1999, Aloha Harvest was established, and since its inception over 8.5 million pounds of food has been rescued from restaurants, hotels, catering businesses and grocery distributors. Seven days a week Aloha Harvest delivers island wide, totally free of charge to over 150 different social service agencies feeding the hungry and homeless of Oahu! Aloha Harvest's operation runs entirely through grants and monetary donations.

The ARTS at Marks Garage is a ten-year old community arts center attracting over 30,000 people annually to 12 major exhibits and over 150 performances, lectures, screenings, workshops. It is an incubator for over a dozen performance and visual arts groups, and offers creative classes for neighborhood youth. Marks Garage sponsors the creative revitalization of the downtown-Chinatown area through neighborhood relations, street festivals, the Gallery Walk Map, First Friday Honolulu and other community celebrations.
