  • Sing-a-long-a Grease at Hawaii Theater - August 16-18, 2013 | 7:30 PM

Have you ever been to a film musical and had the uncontrollable urge to burst into song? Ever wanted to know what it's like to be a T-bird or a Pink Lady but never quite felt cool enough to pull it off? Well, now is your chance to don those pink jackets, grease up those quiffs and let your inhibitions go for an evening where you are the stars. And remember GREASE is the word...

The evening begins with your Sing-a-long-a Grease host leading a vocal warm-up before they show you how to use your free goody bag during the film and suggest some appropriate heckles and accompanying actions. Then just sit back and watch Danny & Sandy and the gang, while singing (and dancing) along to the lyrics on the screen. It couldn't be easier... or more fun! The first rule of Sing-a-long-a is THERE ARE NO RULES! Fancy dress is strongly encouraged and full audience participation essential.

Superb for ladies nights (and the greasers that follow them), anniversaries, and birthday outings.

Suitability for children: Grease is a PG and is suitable for all. Some of the evening performances can get a little raucous and so may be more suitable for older children (plus the late finishing time may mean they will tire) but the Sunday Family Matinee, with reduced prices for children, is certainly recommended.

** Hawaii Theatre Members will enjoy a discount for all purchases made before the date of the performance they are attending.

Proclaimed as the "Pride of the Pacific," the beautiful Hawaii Theatre, built by the Consolidated Amusement Company, opened its doors September 6, 1922 in downtown Honolulu. The Hawaii Theatre operated as a showplace for vaudeville, plays, musicals and silent films until it fell into disrepair and the land lease was abandoned by Consolidated in 1984.

In 1986, the Hawaii Theatre Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation was formed to save the Hawaii Theatre from the wrecking ball and in May 1996, the Hawaii Theatre reopened its doors as a 1400-seat, multi-purpose, state-of-the art performance center.

The Hawaii Theatre was recognized as the 'Outstanding Historic Theatre in America' in 2005 by the League of Historic American Theatres and, in 2006, was awarded an Honor Award by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Listed on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places, the Hawaii Theatre is available for all of Hawaii to enjoy.
