Rich Richardson Honored at Rotary Club of East Honolulu Kalama Award
The Kalama Awards were created to acknowledge those people in our Islands who work quietly to uplift the community through their vocation without expecting anything in return. (WATCH VIDEO)

Kalama -- light or wisdom in Hawaiian -- is the name we have chosen for the award to be presented to those individuals in our community who inspire others to excellence in their fields. We are honored to have four distinguished honorees for this year.

The Creative Director of The ARTS at Marks Garage Rich Richardson.

Rich has a Masters degree in Creative Arts Interdisciplinary Studies from San Francisco State University, and has been a working artist in Hawaii for 13 years.

He does curating, public relations, exhibit & performance programming and occasional janitorial work at The Arts at Mark's Garage. He was owner of pioneer Chinatown art gallery salon5, an adjunct Professor of Art at Hawaii Pacific University, and helped to establish First Friday Honolulu.

Rich was instrumental in building the art scene in Chinatown through The Arts at Mark's Garage and is currently developing the artist lofts. He encourages all form of art in Hawaii to include that of Playbuilders, Youth Speaks, and Cherry Blossom Cabaret -- all you heard during lunch, and many others - with emphases on Theater, Music, and the Spoken word. Rich opens the door for all artists and emerging artists to showcase their talents.

Rich Richardson has been chosen as a Kalama Awards Honoree for his commitment and tireless effort in supporting and promoting all forms of the Arts in Hawaii -- and for inspiring excellence in artists and emerging artists throughout Hawaii.

ABOUT ROTARY CLUB OF EAST HONOLULU
The Rotary Club of East Honolulu was chartered on May 29, 1959 with 25 members. Meetings were held at the old M's Ranch House in Aina Haina. The members exemplified commitment and dedication with their near perfect weekly attendance. Still active, charter member, Kal Yee recalls many meetings prior to the ones at the old Ranch House- when meetings were held at a meeting room (First Hawaiian Bank, Kaimuki) of fellow member and Past District Governor Bob Moranha.

Today, the club consists of approximately 50 members who are business, professional, and educational and community leaders. The club is known for its fellowship and service to the community. The Rotary Club of East Honolulu provides opportunities for personal and business relationships, and long-term friendships

The Rotary Club of East Honolulu consists of energetic, caring and community service-oriented individuals. Many of our local projects are focused on assisting the needs of the East Honolulu Community. Our International projects have reached as far as Thailand, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The club meets every Monday at 12 noon at the Waialae Country Club, in Kahala. Each meeting offers a variety of diverse speakers and opportunities to become actively involved in the community.
