-- Rico Frederick, a full-blooded Trinidadian who is the first poet ever to represent all four New York City poetry venues at the National Poetry Slam (Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Urbana, LouderARTS, and Intangibles). He has also taken his humble heartbeat to numerous universities, hospitals, bars, coffee shops, and the Q-train.
-- An official qualifier for the 2011-2012 HawaiiSlam season. Normal slam rules apply, and the top two poets will advance to the 2012 Grand Slam Finals (on April 5th, 2012) that will determine HawaiiSlam's 9th National Poetry Slam team.
-- Turntable Sorcery by DJ Mr. Nick (KTUH, Next Door)
-- Live painting by the resident artists (past artists include Solomon Enos, Erin McCullough, Kimi Werner, The Storekeeper, Dhyana Zagri, Stanstill, Nabahe, Wes Ka`uhane, Neal Uno, Pancho Abalos, Mike Fresh, Manny P, Patti Bruce, Aaron Char, Mark Agnir, Jeff Lum, Samantha Goldman, Earl Washington, Clinton "Clean" Haness, Carol Tagawa, TJ Howe, and Nikila Badua)

PRESS RELEASE:
The 9th official HawaiiSlam season rolls on with its monthly qualifiers at First Thursdays (October 6th, 2011). The top two poets will qualify for the HawaiiSlam Finals in April 2012 that will determine the team to represent Hawai`i at the 2012 National Poetry Slam in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The special feature for this show is Rico Frederick, a full-blooded Trinidadian who is the first poet ever to represent all Four New York City poetry venues at the National Poetry Slam. He is a three-time Nuyorican Grand Slam Finalist, a three-time Urbana Grand Slam Finalist, and the 2010 Grand Slam Champion of the LouderARTS Project. He has also taken his humble heartbeat to numerous universities, hospitals, bars, coffee shops, and the Q-train. As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will feature live painters and a guest DJ who will provide turntable sorcery throughout the evening.

Fresh Cafe is located at 831 Queen Street (@ intersection with Cooke Street). Ample street parking and $4 valet parking will be available. Doors open at 7:30pm, and the show starts at 8:30pm.
