Mondays | Monday Movie Café
A weekly showcase of current and often hard-to-find Indie, art house and documentary films
from around the world. All films start at 7:00 pm. $10 at the door. For more information contact

February 7: Soul Masters
An in-depth look at the work of alternative health practitioners Drs. Sha and Guo, who
combine the principles of traditional herbal medicine, massage, and spiritual philosophy
to promote healing. (USA, 2005, 83 min.)

February 14: The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
Catherine Deneuve’s breakthrough film, a romantic fantasy in a coastal French town. A
young woman working in an umbrella shop becomes pregnant with the child of a
mechanic she fell for. When he joins the military and goes off to war, she marries a
wealthier young man to provide security for herself and her child. (1964, France, 90
min.)

February 21: Young @ Heart
Prepare to be entertained by the inspiring individuals of Young @ Heart, a New England
senior citizens chorus that’s delighted audiences worldwide with their covers of songs by
everyone from The Clash to Coldplay. As Stephen Walker's documentary begins, the
retirees, led by their strict musical director, are rehearsing their new show, struggling
with a discordant Sonic Youth number and giving new meaning to James Brown's "I Feel
Good." What ultimately emerges is a funny and unexpectedly moving testament to
friendship, creative inspiration and reaching beyond expectations. (USA, 2007, 107 min.)

February 28: Margarette’s Feast
This film pairs the poverty that runs rife throughout Brazil with a delirious dose of
fantasy. The simple plot follows Pedro, a man caught in a never-ending cycle of poverty.
One day, he discovers a suitcase of money, and realizes that no matter how much he
spends, the suitcase magically refills itself with cash. Thinking that money will solve all
his problems, Pedro learns a few sharp lessons in life as his worries only seem to
multiply, but not before he stages a huge feast for his wife, Margarette. (Brazil, 2002, 80
min.)

First Friday. After you’ve had your fill of the street festivities and visiting area galleries,
boutiques and restaurants, stop in theVenue and enjoy the chill scene. Featuring DJs Logoe,
Vegas Mike and Edit. Music starts at 8:00 pm. Free. 21+

Tuesday | February 8
Jessica’s Traveling Boutique. Jessica’s just back from buying trips in LA, NY and Hong Kong!
Featuring amazing clothing, jewelry and accessories and super reduced priced. 6:30 pm. Free.

Thursday | February 10
Much Love. “It’s music that makes your soul want to dance and puts a smile on your face”, The
Austin Chronicle. This emerging Austin-based band performs live in concert at theVenue. The
band just completed a 15-city tour and this is their first visit to Honolulu. The acoustic duo of
Matt Creaton on guitar, ukulele and harmonica and Houston Rawls on saxophone will perform
at theVenue. Tickets are $10 presale at www.brownpapertickets.com or $15 at the door. Doors
open at 7.30 pm, show starts at 8 pm. This is a 21+ event.

Comedy on Valentine’s. Better to laugh than to cry! Featuring comedians, Elroy, Champ, Paul
Kane and Shawn Felipe. Starts at 9:00 pm. $10 in advance; $12 at the door. 21+

Tuesday | February 15
In Yo Face: Improv at theVenue. Think Whose Line Is It Anyway – Hawaii style. Includes short
form games, creating stories and songs based on audience suggestions. Hosted by Chris Riel
and Shawn Thomsen. Starts at 7:00 pm. Think you’ve got he comedy gene? Show off your stuff
during the open mic segment. $5 cover. 21+

Friday | February 18
The Deadbeats. This funky jazzy hip-hop band performs live at theVenue. Charismatic and
charming, the band claims they drink, jam and beg for change! and fans. 10:00 pm. Cover. 21+

Wednesday | February 23
Martini Nights at bambuTwo. A new weekly Wednesday pau hana event. What’s on special?
Terrific martinis, of course!! $3.50 Skyy martinis and $4 Three Olive and Red Bull cocktails.
Presented in partnership with Tantriq Entertainment. Completely chill with DJs and live acoustic
sounds. Starts at 6:00 pm. Free. 21+

Friday | February 25
Comedy Dojo. Featuring the fresh faces of Hawaii comedy. Hosted by Shawn Felipe. Starts at
8:00 pm. $7 cover. 21+
