  • Official HawaiiSlam - Press Release: Another quality show coming on May th 2009

PRESS RELEASE:
After an extremely successful Anniversay/Finals show, First Thursdays is proud to present it s seventh year of poetry slams at its new home: PIPELINE CAFE. Our show on May 7th will kick off our No Rules summer, where all team pieces, musical accompaniment, props, etc. are ALLOWED. However, the 3 minute time rule will still remain in effect.

The feature performers for this show are the unparalleled group Tons of Fun University (TOFU), one of the premier North American troupes to combine spoken word and music. TOFU is made up of Mighty Mike Mcgee (2003 National Poetry Slam Individual Champion, 2006 Individual World Poetry Slam Champion, and HBO Def Poet), Shane Koyzcan (2000 National Poetry Slam Individual Champion), and C.R. Avery (a world class beatbox-harmonicist/singer-songwriter)!! Having performed at nearly every major folk festival in Canada and some of the best venues across the United States, TOFU is a trio unlike any other. They have shared stages with That 1 Guy, Corb Lund, Feist, U. Utah Philips, Ani DiFranco, Maya Angelou, Tom Waits, K naan, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Viggo Mortensen, and nearly every contemporary spoken word artist working in North America. As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will feature live painters, massages in the lounge, and a guest DJ providing turntable sorcery throughout the evening.

Pipeline Cafe is located at 805 Pohukaina Street (near intersection with Cooke St). Doors open at 7:30pm, and the show starts at 8:30pm. Admission is $3 before 8:30pm and $5 after. For more info, check out the website at www.HawaiiSlam.com, send an email to info@HawaiiSlam.com, or call 387-9664.
