First Thursdays welcomes in the new year with a special "No Rules" slam on January 4, 2007. All team pieces, musical accompaniment, props, etc. are ALLOWED. However, the 3 minute time rule will still remain in effect. This event will not be a qualifier for the 2007 HawaiiSlam finals (to be held on April 6th, 2007).

Our guest feature for this evening is Khalil Almustafa (New York's Nuyorican Slam Team in 2002). Almustafa is currently a performer and speaker on the Hip-Hop Is Dead Tour. He has also shared the stage with Amiri Baraka, Sonia Sanchez, Manning Marable, Dead Prez, Floetry, Dilated Peoples, and Motown Recording Artist Donnie. As always, the night will feature live painters and DJ Lady J (RGU) providing turntable sorcery throughout the evening.

First Thursdays is the largest registered poetry slam in the world (attendance of 600+), and takes place at the Hawaiian Hut on every first Thursday of the month. Hawaiian Hut is located on the Ala Moana Hotel grounds, near the diamond head side of the Ala Moana shopping center. Doors open at 7:45pm, and the show starts at 8:30pm. Admission is $3 before 8:30pm and $5 after. For more info call 808-387-9664.
