Call for Artists, Decorators, and Designers:
MUSICAL CHAIRS at CRESCENDO! Fall 2006

Local artists are invited to create/paint/decorate chairs, which will be auctioned at one of Hawaii's premiere charity events this fall: Hawai`i Vocal Art Ensemble's Crescendo!

The auction, featuring one-of-a-kind chairs created locally, is an opportunity for Hawai`i painters, decorators, and other creative people to use new, recycled, or reconstructed chairs as their palette. Chairs can be painted/decorated in any style, from traditional to outrageous, colorful, sculptural, decorative, whimsical or avant-garde. Adult or child size, indoor or outdoor, even stools will be accepted. A musical theme is not required.

Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble will provide a chair (while supplies last) or the artist may provide their own. The individual artists will provide all paint, fabric, and other materials. Hawai`i Vocal Arts volunteers will assist in delivering and picking up chairs. Chairs will become property of Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble.

There is no entry fee and chairs must be completed by November 8, 2006. A brief description of each chair, its title, and an artist/designer bio will be printed for guests at the auction. The event is limited to the first twenty-five artists who register. This is a non-juried event, but awards will be given for Best Overall Chair, Most Humorous Chair, and Best Use of Materials.

Television and radio personality Kimo Kahoano will auction the chairs on November 18, 2006 at Crescendo! Fall 2006 Dinner and Auction at the Pacific Club, from 6-10pm. The evening will also include a silent auction, buffet dinner, and entertainment. All proceeds will be used for our main educational outreach activity, the Hawaii Vocal Masterworks Festival, a weeklong series of master classes and rehearsals for high school and college-age orchestral musicians in conjunction with our Festival choral activities. Hawai'i Vocal Arts Ensemble, Timothy Carney Music Director, is now in its fifteenth season of performing choral music at the highest professional level for the people of Hawai`i.
