Daniel J is a remarkably gifted DJ whose long career is propelled by his deep passion for electronic music and dancing. His craft is honed by impeccable tastes, three decades of experience, and an uncanny ability to keep ahead of the curve. A legend in Hawaii and the West Coast, Daniel's storied career has taken him from his home in San Francisco to Hawaii and to many points around the globe. Many thousands of dancers and nightclub enthusiasts worldwide will attest to Daniel's unique gifts on the turntables. He is equally accomplished as a producer, promoter, and owner of numerous night clubs. Perhaps his crowning achievement has been introducing house music to Hawaii, providing a foundational pillar of the electronic dance music scene that thrives there to this day.

His story begins in San Francisco in 1976 at the Down Under where he cut his teeth as a teenager spinning disco and funk records. By 1979, he finagled a job DJing at the biggest disco club in SF, Studio West. He went on work all over the Bay Area at clubs including the famous Endup on Sunday Mornings.

In 1985 he traveled to Hawaii for a vacation for his 21st Birthday and fell in love with the islands. He quickly secured DJ gigs and began a series of "firsts" that would launch his career as Hawaii's premier electronic DJ. Starting with posts at the Wave & Hula's, he went on to spin records at each club for seven years. In 1988, he started Honolulu's first radio "Mix" show on the KIKI I94. That same year he created The Love Club at Anna Banana's, Hawaii's first underground club night dedicated to house music. Soon he moved on to Pink Cadillac and Pink's Garage, starting the first live-in-club mix show "Dance-Floor Democracy," a fondly remembered Friday "on air" party with Radio Free Hawaii. In 1992 Daniel threw the Hawaii's first rave "Happy Happy Joy Joy" at Pink's Garage. A little later he opened the Blue Zebra nightclub and began throwing parities at the large venue After Dark in 1994 continuing through three owners of the club.

In 1997 he toured Europe, Asia, North and Central America, playing the famed Ministry of Sound in England and clubs in Florence, Paris, Tokyo, Bangkok, Phukett, Hong Kong, Barcelona, Ibiza, Amsterdam, Vancouver, New York, Los Angles, Seattle, Portland, Miami, Chicago, San Diego, and Costa Rica. In 1999 he teamed up with another Hawaii DJ, G-Spot, to throw Phuture 2000 with Carl Cox and the BBC. Fifteen thousand were in attendance and thirty million heard or saw it globally.

In Hawaii, Daniel's exuberant and prolific spreading of the dance music gospel extends beyond Honolulu to Maui. He threw the first outdoor Full Moon parties there in 1994 at Nakalielie (Hobbit Land) with Mark Farina, John Howard, and DJ Spun. Maui is where his production company Love & Light was born and Daniel has been throwing Monthly parties on the valley isle ever since. The list of DJ's Daniel has spun with over the years reads like a who's who of important names in global dance culture in the last fifteen years. The names include but are not limited to DJ Dan, Rapp, Carl Cox, Mark Farina, Keoki, Mark Grant, Garth, Jeno, Todd Terry, Jesse Saunders, David Morales, Doc Martin, Simon, Marcus Wyatt, Bad Boy Bill, John Kelly, Mark Lewis, Perry Farrel, Sandra Collins, Taylor, DJ Spun, M3, Galen, Solar, Miguel Migs, Jonene, John Howard, Harry Who, Rick Preston, Jellybean, Jellybear, Polly Wog, David Harness, Blackstone, Idjut boys, IZ (Joshua), and the list goes on...

Cut to 2012, Daniel is still going strong. He regularly inspires dancers on Oahu, Maui and on the West Coast. Recently he shared the stage with Paul Oakenfold outdoors in Hawaii, as well as with recent DJ stars like Diplo, Jackbeats, and Morgan Paige. He can often be found rocking the decks at his club The Dragon Upstairs in Honolulu's Chinatown.

Daniel's infectious enthusiasm, his passion for the music, and his singular ear for unique tracks have remained steadfast. After thirty years behind the decks, his craft is as potent as ever. His gift is using dance music to combine the sublime with the spiritual in a way that is uniquely Daniel J.
