Downtown Art Center Presents the Third Annual ʻArchitects as Artists Exhibition,’ January 5-27, 2024

Honolulu (December 2023) – Downtown Art Center at 1041 Nuʻuanu Ave, Second Floor is proud to present the third annual Architects as Artists exhibition, on view in the Main Gallery from January 5-27, 2024. The exhibition will be free and on view to the public during regular gallery hours, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

A First Friday Opening Reception will be held on Friday, January 5, from 5:30 - 8 p.m.

Architects as Artists is an invitational exhibition that was successfully held in January 2022 for the first time, to great public acclaim. This annual exhibition explores the sources of architects' inspiration in their work and art, and attempts to stimulate and deepen the public's interest and understanding for architecture and architects in Hawaiʻi and Downtown Honolulu. Architects, architectural engineers and architecture students, as well as those who work in architecture firms or architecture-related fields in Hawaiʻi, have been invited to show their work in all media in this exhibition.

More than 30 members of Hawaiʻi’s architecture industry will be exhibiting in 2024.  Among this year’s notable artists are Sheryl B. Seaman of G70 Design, landscape architectural designer and AIA Associate Stephen Haus, retired architect Hitoshi Hida, landscape architect Dana Anne Yee, and design principal Lester Ng of AHL.

A variety of mediums will be on display, from 2D art such as paintings, drawings, and photographs, to 3D art like ceramics, sculptures, glass works, metal works, and mixed media.
Mahalo to this exhibition's curator, Carol Khewhok, and its special advisor, Randall K. Fujiki, FAIA.
