FIRST FRIDAY // JAN 5 // ft. The Brighter Side of Sol
The band is a 6-piece fusion rock group based in Honolulu, Hawaii, and formed in 2018 from a collection of diverse musicians who met at local music stages. Inspired by Pharrell Williams, Jimmy Hendrix, Will I Am, Foo Fighters and Sting, their unique brand of entertainment fuses music from Indian and Malaysia, with the rhythmic beats of the Dhol drum, layered on groovy trombone and psychedelic guitars. A three-part harmony with an iconic base leaves the fans humming the tunes long after the shows are over. Intertwined elements of brass instruments, synthesizers, guitars, and rhythmic drums have fans swinging in their step before they even realize it.

Now hailed as the next up-and-coming feature act, Brighter Side of Sol has graced large and small stages alike and has been recognized for breakout fusion rock by Fans Choice. The band’s members have collectively performed in over 35 cities across world tours and have recently released their debut single on all streaming platforms. Jared Jules from the Hawaii Polo Festival fondly recalls, “They were the highlight of the festival.”
Currently, the band is working on a new album called Sol Spotlight with a planned launch in the Summer of 2024. Get a preview of the unreleased originals at an upcoming show!

•The Waikiki Trolley – the Red Line State Capitol/Iolani Palace Stop is a short walk from HiSAM. For more information, call the Waikiki Trolley at (808) 591-2561, or check online at www.waikikitrolley.com.
•Biki Bikeshare – the closest Biki racks are directly in front of the building on South Hotel St. (120 Chinatown/DT – Hotel & Richards), and at the corner of Richards and South Beretania St (121 Chinatown/DT – Beretania & Richards).
•Bicycle Racks – nearby Honolulu City & County bike racks are on South Hotel St. near Alakea St., on Richards St. near South Hotel St., and on the lawn between the Hawai‘i State Capitol building and Iolani Palace.

PARKING
There is no parking on site. Parking is available at nearby lots, including across Hotel street in the Ali‘i Place building (enter at 1099 Alakea Street, cash only, closes at 8:00PM), across Richards Street at Iolani Palace, the Kalanimoku Building, Kinaʻu Hale/Department of Health, State Capitol basement, Honolulu City Municipal Parking, and metered street parking in the area.

ACCESSIBLE PARKING
Free accessible parking stalls are available in these locations for persons with disabilities:
•Iolani Palace grounds (one stall near the Richards Street exit, one stall near the State Archives building, and one stall near the gate leading to the State Capitol)
•Ali‘i Place building parking structure (vehicle entrance at 1099 Alakea Street, pedestrian entrance/exit on South Hotel Street directly across from the Hawai‘i State Art Museum). 2 hour limit.
•State parking lots allow metered spaces in those lots to be used as accessible parking, with a 2 hour limit. Nearby state parking lots include the State Capitol (415 South Beretania Street and Punchbowl Street), and the Kalanimoku Building (corner of Beretania Street and 1151 Punchbowl Street). For a full list of state government parking lots and a map, please visit the Automotive Management Division webpage. In order to use the spaces, vehicles must display the appropriate placard issued to individuals.

HAWAI‘I STATE ART MUSEUM EXHIBITS
Artworks on display in the Hawai‘i State Art Museum are from the Art in Public Places Collection of the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, or student art competitions (the Annual Hawai‘i Regional Scholastic Art Awards and Annual Young Artists of Hawai‘i). Most of the Art in Public Places Collection is on display in public buildings, including schools, libraries, and state offices. ABOUT THE HAWAII STATE MUSEUM

The Hawai'i State Art Museum is located in No. 1 Capitol Distric Building at 250 South Hotel Street. The building is situated in the historic Hawaii Capital Cultural District, across from 'Iolani Palace and the State Capitol.
