First Friday - Art, Music, and Fashion First Friday at HiSAM


Free, family-friendly evening of art, music and fashion at HiSAM! Admission is always free. All museum galleries will be open. Live performances by Hawaii Youth Symphony alumni, fashion show, and more!

Hawaii Youth Symphony: performances by HYS students.
Project X: a creative collaboration of visual artists, musicians, and fashion designers. For this First Friday, it will be a fashion show collaboration with artist Satoru Abe, singer and songwriter Tim Rose, and fashion designer Robyn Yim Pang (RYP Designs).

Pop-ups and workshops: screenprinting demo by April Sham, live painting by Deb Haugen, jewelry display by Yumono, Gerard Paul Chocolates.

6:00 - 9:00 PM, ground floor and second floor of the No 1. Capitol District building (250 South Hotel St., corner of Richards and S. Hotel). Free and open to the public. HiSAM galleries will be open (admission is always free). Parking available across the street in the Ali'i Place building (enter at 1099 Alakea St., cash only) or metered street parking in the area. Several TheBus lines stop in front of or close to the building.

Featuring a selection of recent additions to the Art in Public Places Collection of the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, this exhibit is an opportunity to see some of the best contemporary art from across the Hawaiian Islands.

HAWAI‘I: Change & Continuity
This exhibit tells a story of the past, examining the overlapping influences of nature’s bounty and human impact on a fragile environment. As you walk through the exhibit, you will see art that reflects on the forces of nature and man’s intrusion. Relevant quotes are placed on walls to help the viewer understand the meaning.

ABOUT THE HAWAII STATE MUSEUM

The Hawai'i State Art Museum is located in No. 1 Capitol Distric Building at 250 South Hotel Street. The building is situated in the historic Hawaii Capital Cultural District, across from 'Iolani Palace and the State Capitol. The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information on the Hawai'i State Art Museum call (808) 586-0900
