The Hawai‘i State Legislature will open its doors for the 8th Annual "Art at the Capitol" in conjunction with the Hawai‘i State Art Museum's First Friday festivities. Scheduled Friday, April 1, 2016, from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m.

State Senators and Representatives put politics aside for a few hours today and tapped into their inner artist for Art at the Capitol. Legislatures gave up their pen and picked up pastels for a lesson creating a self-portrait. Comments from lawmakers on the class ranged from "therapeutic" to "stressful," but the creative endeavor is just for fun. The public is encouraged to view the finished artwork during Art at the Capitol.

More than 500 works of art by local artists placed in the offices of legislators and executive offices will be open to the public for viewing.

While in the area, please walk next door and enjoy a jazz performance by the Air Force Band of the Pacific at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum, and take the opportunity to see more great art works in the current exhibitions on view.
