Black Square is a ska band from Honolulu, Hawaii. Originally formed in 2002 as a hardcore punk trio, Black Square expanded into a six-piece and currently consists of Josh86 (vocals, guitar), Brian Kim (Drums), Taylor (bass), Jared (trombone, backing vocals), T.R. (alto saxophone, backing vocals), and Babyface (tenor saxophone, backing vocals). Since expanding to a six-piece set up Black Square has sought to blend ska, punk, rocksteady, reggae, and hip-hop influences to create a distinct ska sound that maintains the intensity and style of punk rock. The band's name is a reference to Kazimir Malevich's 1915 oil painting of a black square on a plain piece of canvas.

Pimpbot is a ska punk band from Honolulu. Formed in 2001, the band is currently composed of Fernando "The Love Machine" Pacheco (lead vocals, trombone, tuba), Tom "Tommy Utah" Coleman (guitar, vocals), Rylan "Big Sexy" Yee (bass guitar, keyboard), Eric "The Biz" Lagrimas (drums, recorder, tenor sax), and Cathy "Kat von Keys" Lagrimas (keyboard, trumpet, vocals) who are graduates of the University of Hawaii and Berklee College of Music. Past members include Joel Tokunaga (guitar), Shannon Ogura (bass), Alex Nagata (drums), Chris LaPan (backing vocals, drums), Mike Lewis (bass), Ray Farias (tenor sax), Nicolas Ramos (trumpet/backing vocals), Christian Ramos (keyboard) and Jesse Tinker (tenor sax). Blending influences of reggae, dance-rock, hardcore punk, and rocksteady, the band is a local favorite, playing at many Honolulu venues.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
"Was there on opening night... What a great place. Had the loco moco and was so full that I had to take dessert to go (Otto Cake). Simply delicious. The staff was great. Instantly became my favorite diner."

"Even as we walked into Downbeat, the modern diner decor and cozy feel was enough to have me praying to the gods that the food and service would be up to snuff enough for me to make this a regular stop on my Chinatown circuit. We sat at the bar and our very friendly bartender - Serena - gave us menus and gave us the breakdown about their alcohol policy."

The basket of fritters are a MUST GET, though. Big pieces, a cup of caramel sauce, and fritters so soft and sweet that the sauce is almost an after thought. if you MUST get dessert, get the basket of fritters.
