Hawai‘i Fashion Month merges with First Friday in October at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum!

Hawai‘i Fashion Month merges with First Friday in October at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum! Join us at HiSAM for the new exhibition The Way We Wear, featuring items from the Art in Public Places Collection, and works on loan from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa Historic Costume Museum. With First Friday, HiSAM will be mixing art and fashion with a runway show in the Sculpture Garden featuring some of Hawai‘i's top designers and emerging young talent, showcasing 14 designers for a unique event "Fashion as Art"

The Way We Wear, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., Second Floor Galleries
A new exhibit on the visual history of fashion in Hawai‘i. A joint project of the Art in Public Places Collection & University of Hawai‘i at Manoa Historic Costume Museum.

Fashion as Art, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m, HiSAM Sculpture Garden
A runway show featuring established and emerging Hawai‘i-based designers in celebration of Hawai‘i Fashion Month. This evening of art and fashion is a collaboration between the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts & Hawai‘i Fashion Incubator..

In November, HiSAM will welcome Hawaiian slack key musician Ron Loo for First Friday. The sweet old style of Ron and his kiho‘alu guitar are sure to please. Join us November 1, 2013 from 6 - 9 p.m, on the second floor.

First Friday in September was a fantastic evening with entertainer and educator James McCarthy. James played music in a myriad of styles on his guitar, even turning our Sculpture Lobby into a cool blues bar, with vocals from Serena Hashimoto. Louise Taylor also stopped by to entertain us with her musical stylings, providing us all an additional musical treat.

The Hawai‘i State Art Museum would like to thank all of our September First Friday entertainers!

The Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the Hawai‘i State Art Museum send a big mahalo to Dayton for a wonderful, relaxing evening!

The galleries of HiSAM will be open during your visit.

Galleries are open from 6 to 8:45 p.m. on First Friday. As the museum's supply of chairs are limited, low folding chairs and mats are recommended at the second floor open courtyard, which overlooks the newly opened Sculpture Garden. Don't miss this special treat
