ANDREW ROSE GALLERY HONOLULU
presents

AETHER, an exhibition of new paintings by galleriest Andrew Rose. It features new works on a theme Rose continues to investigate on the coalescing of water as a visual metaphor of how we see.

Opening Friday, January 18, AETHER runs through Friday, March 1, 2013. The gallery will host a preview reception on Thursday, January 17th, from 5 - 8pm. Andrew Rose will host an Artist’s Talk with during First Friday, February 1st, from 7 – 8pm. The gallery will be open to the public both First Fridays, February 1, and March 1, 2013 from 6 – 9 pm.

AETHER is Andrew Rose’s latest body of work in his continuing investigation through paint into the theme of water as visual metaphor for how we see and know. The small, medium and large canvases all show abstracted interpretations of clouds seen from on high. Aether is known from Classical Philosophy as the Fifth Element, or the Quintessence. Beyond the main four elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water, each with their own influence and impact on human nature and society, Aether is the creative realm of spirit and is the birthplace of gods. As a result, these images are composed from the perspective of dwelling within the upper atmosphere, not from the viewpoint of a person on terra firma. The canvases shimmer and shine with metallic paints and veils of color softly applied to represent the ever-changing and indistinct world of Aether – a place where specifics yield to generalities, the hard dissolves in the soft, and the known slips toward the unknown.
