December 7, 2012 FIRST FRIDAY VENDORS

Katharine Rita Designs 'b2c jewelry' -an eclectic styling of beautiful jewelry from Beach 2 City www.facebook.com/Beach2City

Name: Katharine Rita
Company Name: Beach 2 City
How long have you been doing this? I have been designing and instructing professionally here on the Islands of Hawaii for eight years now. I have been teaching my designs in local Bead Stores and Private Homes while selling as well. I started making jewelry when I was just a child, teaching my friends and classmates friendship bracelets along with all the different knots one could use as early as first grade. I soon progressed towards basic wire working techniques and again found my love of jewelry and handwork right before my Beebs were born. Growing up, my Mother - an heirloom dress designer/maker was always finding ways to keep me occupied. Once such technique was sewing. I didn't have much patience for it then, but the skills she taught me along the way have created a monster in me. I am again enjoying basic constructions, making bags and scarves, tea length dresses and I'm working on a few new patterns for beach wear.
What made you start your business? Designing has always come naturally to me, inspiration and sharing my techniques and tricks has always brought me happiness. When friends and family members continually suggested I begin a business, I thought to myself, ‘I've already begun. Lets see where it will take me.’ .x.
What inspires your designs? I continue to create my lines based off eclectic styling that I myself am inspired an amused by; the ocean, the beach, city life.
If you had advice for any new up-and-coming artists out there what would it be? I would encourage them to 'be yourself. Find your muse, create something new and innovative and never, ever sell yourself short.' We live in such a seemingly small environment; Luckily we are surrounded by some truly amazing talents. Please, remember to be the Inspiration, start something new and always be respectful of others and their Art.
