Among the participants in addition to Joe are his daughter and distinguished artist IPO NIHIPALI, LAURE ADARO, MARISA ALDERMAN, JACKIE BURKE, DIANE CONNOR, CHRISTOPHER DOWSON, CINDY FARRELL, BOBBIE KENNEDY, CHARLES KIM M.D., ESTHER KIM, SANDY KLASSEN, CHRISTINA MASUTANI, BARBARA MORLET, KATHRYN NICHOLSON, ALOHA PAAKAULA, LORI PAAKAULA, THOMAS PANG, STEPHANIE SCHOENING, ADRIENNE STRAUSS, TYRAH SUMILE and others. There will be photos of Joe’s other students with their paintings. Also presented will be works of Artist PATRICK CHING.

About Joe Dowson, Award-winning Hawaiian Artist
His works have been displayed at the Bishop Museum and acquired by the State Foundation of Culture and the Arts, the American Embassies in Tokyo and Bangladesh, United Airlines, and collected by others throughout the world. In May 2007, Joe received a MAMo Lifetime Achievement Award at the Bishop Museum in recognition of his numerous contributions and accomplishments as a Native Hawaiian visual artist. He is a member of the Honolulu Chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters and a past president of the Hawaii Watercolor Society.




Joe has taught thousands of students of all ages – from 5 to 92 for over 50 years, helping them to gain skill, confidence, and enjoyment. One third of the net proceeds will benefit the promotion of art education through HAWAI’I ARTS ALLIANCE. Another one third will be shared with the AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY. Joe is a pancreatic cancer survivor for over six years – thanks be to God, his skilled doctors and supporting health team! In addition, one third will be given to MAMo GALLERY, a community based arts venue dedicated to creating space for Hawaiian artists and others to showcase their work.




Up front expenses will be extensive! Therefore we are soliciting contributions beforehand made payable to HAWAI‘I ARTS ALLIANCE, mailed c/o Joe Dowson Art at the address above. $10, $25, $50, $100, and MORE will be most appreciated and gratefully acknowledged. Donations are fully tax deductible.*

MAMo Gallery was started in May of 2010, and features Contemporary Native Hawaiian Art by Native Hawaiian Artists. We are giving you a taste of the real Maoli art that is being created in Hawaii today because the Hawaiian aesthetic is unique to the native Hawaiian community.
