On First Friday, July 2, 2010 from 6 to 9 pm, the Friends of the Hawai'i State Art Museum (HiSAM) and the Hawai'i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts present "BIG Big Island" Live from the Lawn, featuring some of the very best in performing arts from Hawai'i Island. Headlining the evening is Kaumaka'iwa Kanaka'ole, as well as singer/songwriter/vagabond Bo Lozoff, and musical duo Lorna Lim and Wailau Ryder.

Coming into his own, taking Hawaiian music to the next dimension is Kaumaka'iwa Kanaka'ole. The three-time NāHōkū Hanohano Award-winner has developed into a phenomenal world music artist with an inventive talent that shines brightly. As strong a Hawaiian as his bloodline, Kanaka'ole delivers oli (chants) and mele (song) with refined dynamics that is exclusively his own.

Bo Lozoff has been intermittently writing and performing his songs for almost forty years. Enjoy a powerful live performanceof songs written during his life on the road, speakingand performing across the country.

A native of the North Kohala district on the Big Island,Lorna Lim was born into one of Hawai'i's legendary musicalfamilies. The Lim Family -- a Hawaiian group consisting ofLorna Lim, Elmer "Sonny" Lim, Mary Ann Lim and NaniLim Yap -- splashed onto the Hawaiian music scene in the1980s after being discovered by veteran record producer BillMurata at a Kona talent contest. For this performance LornaLim sings with musician Wailau Ryder.

The galleries of the Hawai'i State Art Museum will beopen during the event, as well as Downtown@HiSAM, andthe Museum shop, Hawaii Showcase Productions. Foodvendors on the Lawn include: Bombay India Restaurant,Le Crepe Café, Land of Organica and Kettle Corn Hawaii.Produced by Tim Bostock Productions, for the Friends of theHawai'i State Art Museum and the Hawai'i State Foundationon Culture and the Arts, with support from the LEF Foundationand DBEDT.

Downtown @ the HiSAM, the restaurant located on the first floor of the museum, will be open for dinner from 5:30-9 p.m. The Hawai'i State Art Museum, 250 Hotel St. Admission is free. For more information, call 586-0900.





ABOUT THE HAWAII STATE MUSEUM
The Hawai'i State Art Museum is located in No. 1 Capitol Distric Building at 250 South Hotel Street. The building is situated in the historic Hawaii Capital Cultural District, across from 'Iolani Palace and the State Capitol.
