HONOLULU (November 17, 2009) – Hurley and Contrast Magazine present The Anti-Canvas: an art show/auction for charity on Friday Dec. 4, 2009 at SOHO Mixed Media Bar which is located on 80 South Pauahi Street.

This event will be held in conjunction with the First Friday Art Walk and all of the proceeds will benefit Save Our Sports, Junior Lifeguard Program and the Samoa Relief Disaster Fund.

Thirty-one Hawai‘i-based and North American artists will display their stunning work on a pair of Hurley board shorts that will be auctioned off during the December First Friday Art Walk. Lisa Johnson, Winston Smith, Alex Gray, Bob Dob, Robert Williams, Ron English, Jason Maloney, Dean Bradley and Big Foot are the mainland artists donating their work to this charitable event. While Teddie Scott, Nat Woolley, Jeannie Chesser, John Thomas, Basil Sakamoto, Jon Mozo Foundation, Allen Mozo, Carlo Costantino, Fitted Hawai‘i, Troy Gomes, Haj Gollestani, Katch 1, Clark Little, Eukarezt,
Heather Brown, Honozooloo, Kristen Lee Lim, Mark Kushimi, Jef Hartsel, in4mation, Angry Woebots, and Kuha‘o Zane are the local artists whose work will be showcased alongside at The Anti-Canvas.

Hurley will utilize a “sublimation” process to make a one-of-a-kind board short with the art that will be auctioned off for the charities. This manufacturing method uses a heat transferring process that preserves the integrity and details of the design.

This event promises to be a unique experience to join art and youth communities in Hawai‘i for a great cause. Please see examples of the artwork and Hurley shorts attached to this press release.
