The truth is ong king was on its last leg...when in the door walked Dana and SHain, two visionary women with the quest of keeping oNg King ALIVE. Oh yes, DECEMBER 4th is First Friday. With Music and Art and strange wonderful performing arts. TWO ANGELS to bring ong king back to LIFE! (1)Shain Miller kicked it at ong king three years ago. Then she went afar rock Americorps and teach little children how to be good. Upon her return to Oahu she discoverd that her heart and soul in Hawaii was threatened with closure (yes thats ong king) . She believes..... “the power of Ong king is bigger than all of us, it needs the each and every one of us to survive.” (2)After living in India, Ireland, and Australia, Dana Beatty found herself behind a desk in the midwest, and decided to seek out greener pastures—and her family’s heritage—in Hawai’i. She’s studied sustainability and social change for years, and in the heart of Chinatown she found a living example of both ideals in Ong King. Everyone’s in need of a place where they feel free to express themselves and grow. Both plan to Manage the space to fruition.... DEC 4rth Special Musical Guests:................. Black Square YAY! FInally they come to ONG KIng again, love love love...THis been one of the most steadily evolving and exciting bands on Oahu over the last SEVEN years. They started as a trio in the underground 808 scene, gigging extensively and honing their sound. Adding a horn section in 2004 has furthered their musical evolvement while they retaining their social focus. The band has incorporated their diverse influences, ranging from reggae to ska to punk, and produced a sound unique to them. Josh86s superior songwriting talent has lead the band towards growing recognition. Their third cd "Onward" was released in June 08. In an era of digital perfection, “Onward” is refreshing in its organic musical feel and reflects Black Square’s continued social focus. Recently Black Square has been touring the mainland USA about every six months and is receiving radio play.
