  • The Grand Slam FINALS!! - Hawaii Slam's 14th Anniversary Finals (April 6th, 2017 at Hawaiian Brian's)!!

The best First Thursdays show of the year is almost here!! We've got 9 days left until the 2017 Grand Slam FINALS and HawaiiSlam's 14th Anniversary on April 6th. On the night of the show, we will give priority in the line to ticket holders (in other words, we will let them in first), so get your tickets now!!

Come witness the 12 best poets from the 2016-2017 season fighting for their metaphoric lives in an all out, three-round elimination match to determine the members of the 2017 HawaiiSlam team. Competing poets are Serena Simmons, TravisT, Will Giles, Gabe Mizunaka, Destiny Sharion, Jesse Lipman, Malia Derden, Angeline, Noa Helelā, Dorian Hebert, Adam Kenner, and Liam Skilling. The show will be hosted by Kealoha (Hawai`i Poet Laureate) with DJ Toki (Sisters in Sound).

The special feature for the show is Shawn William, a seasoned performer who has shared stages with Mos Def, KRS-1, Jill Scott, Common, Goapele, Talib Kweli, and many others. He has featured at venues such as the NBA All Star Game, Carnegie Hall, TV One's Verses and Flow, the Apollo Theater, B.E.T.'s Lyric Lounge (Puerto Rico), and The Essence Music Festival.

Tickets are $15, and are available at the following locations:

If you're buying tickets for people other than yourself, you can email us at info@HawaiiSlam.com at least one day before the show to specify who to hold the tickets under (you can specify various names -- useful if your group plans to arrive at different times). If you are having difficulties with purchasing via paypal, give us a call at (808) 387-9664 and we'll help you out. Please note that Internet purchases will not be available on the day of the show!

The proceeds from this once a year showcase/fundraiser/competition/anniversary will fund the HawaiiSlam Team's trip up to the National Poetry Slam in Denver, Colorado. HawaiiSlam has official 501(c)(3) non-profit status through Poetry Slam Inc, so not only will you be able to see the slam poetry event of the year, but you can also feel good about supporting a noble cause in Hawai`i!! This show is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Hawai`i.

Validated parking for Hawaiian Brian's is $2 up to 3 hours, $4 up to 4 hours, and $6 up to 5 hours. There is plenty of street parking in the area as well (note, if you street park or walk/bike/bus, enter through the 24 Hour Fitness lobby on Kapi`olani and walk up the stairs).
