FIRST FRIDAY at HiSAM

Event: First Friday at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum - live harp music with Ruth Freedman, who will be playing holiday classics on her antique harp.

Location: Hawai‘i State Art Museum (HiSAM)

250 South Hotel St., Second Floor

Downtown Honolulu

Date: Friday, December 2, 2016

Time: 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM

Cost: free

Additional information: Sculpture Lobby (second floor, between the museum galleries); seating will be provided. Museum galleries will be open (entry and admission are always free), including the "I Love Art" hands-on activity room for kids. First Friday at HiSAM is a casual, family-friendly event.

Parking: across the street at Ali‘i Place (entrance at 1099 Alakea St.) or Iolani Palace.

SECOND SATURDAY at HiSAM

Learn how to weave with lauhala (hala, or Pandanus tectorius leaf), and make a tiny clay reindeer. All ages are welcome, all materials are provided, and admission is always free.

Event: Second Saturday at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum

Location: Hawai‘i State Art Museum (HiSAM)

Date: Saturday, December 10, 2016

Time: 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM, while supplies last

Cost: free

Additional information: Multipurpose Room (ground floor, on the right as you enter from the front doors); seating will be provided. Museum galleries will be open (entry and admission are always free), including the newest exhibit, "Accession", featuring recent acquisitions by the Art in Public Places Collection of the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the "I Love Art" hands-on activity room for kids.

ART LUNCH at HiSAM

Art Lunch for December has been cancelled. Art Lunch, HiSAM's "meet the artist" lecture series, will resume in January 2017.

The following events are sponsored in part by the HSFCA Biennium Grants program, providing public funding to support projects designed to preserve and further culture, the arts, history, and/or the humanities beneficial to Hawai‘i.

West Hawaii Dance

Nutcracker Ballet at Kahilu Theatre, 12/20, 12/21, and 12/22. This visually stunning festive family-friendly production includes more than 60 local dancers, guest dancers from The Maui Academy of Performing Arts, and guest professional dancers from the Matsuyama Ballet, Caroline Ballet and Bolshoi Ballet.
