Recent acquisitions exhibition opens September 2nd, features contemporary art from across the Hawaiian islands


The newest exhibition at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum showcases recently acquired artworks from the Art in Public Places Collection of the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. Accession features 33 works by 27 artists from across the state of Hawai‘i: Evan M. Asato, Jan Becket, Derek Bencomo, Alison Beste, Judy D. Bisgard, Francisco Clemente, Hannah Day, Quincy Dein, Scott Fitzel, Sally French, Judy Gardner, Mary Goodrich, Diana Nicholette Jeon, Sanit Khewhok, David Kuraoka, Chenta Laury, Tom Lieber, Shigeru Miyamoto, Miho Morinue, John Mydock, Carl F.K. Pao, Zach Pezzillo, Brennan Simcock, Michael Patrick Smith, Jefferson Stillwell, Dominic Tidmarsh, and George Woollard.


Join us for a family-friendly evening with local artists and arts enthusiasts on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM. Admission is always free!

First Friday festivities include live music by Ledward Kaapana, slack key guitar and ukulele master. Friends of the Hawaii State Art Museum will be selling beverages.


All museum galleries will be open, including the "I Love Art" play area and the Sculpture Garden.

Parking

Ali'i Place (entrance on 1099 Alakea St.) $3 flat rate (cash only) after 5:00 pm, metered parking at 'Iolani Palace and surrounding streets.

Waikiki Trolley: the Red Line State Capitol Stop is a short walk from HiSAM.

Admission to the Hawai'i State Art Museum galleries and events is always free!

ABOUT THE HAWAII STATE MUSEUM

The Hawai'i State Art Museum is located in No. 1 Capitol Distric Building at 250 South Hotel Street. The building is situated in the historic Hawaii Capital Cultural District, across from 'Iolani Palace and the State Capitol. The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information on the Hawai'i State Art Museum call (808) 586-0900
