PRESS RELEASE:
The 12th official HawaiiSlam season rolls on with its monthly qualifiers at First Thursdays (March 5th, 2015). The top two poets will qualify for the HawaiiSlam Finals on April 2nd, 2015 that will determine the team to represent Hawai`i at the 2015 National Poetry Slam in Oakland, California.

The special feature for this show is Sarah Christine, a reggae/soul/jazz/hip-hop musician from Vashon Island, WA, who began her career as a back-up singer for touring Reggae acts such as Prezident Brown, Pure Water, The Crucialites, Big Island Groove and Adrian Xavier. Throughout the years, she has also collaborated with Michael Franti, Spearhead, and Anthony B. Christine incorporates hypnotic rhythms, intricate vocal harmonies and socially conscious lyrics into her music. She has shared her music at the Northwest Reggae Festival OR, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival CA, Conscious Culture Festival WA, Northwest Folklife, Bumbershoot and Seattle Hempfest. As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will also feature live painters and a guest DJ who will provide turntable sorcery throughout the evening.

Join us this Thursday (March 5th) for a top-notch installment of First Thursdays at Fresh Café Kaka`ako!! As always, this HawaiiSlam show will be hosted by Kealoha and will feature:

-- The last official qualifier for the 2014-2015 HawaiiSlam season (a.k.a. the "Last Chance" Slam). The top two poets will secure the last spots for the 2015 Grand Slam Finals on April 2nd at Fresh Cafe.
-- Turntable Sorcery by DJ Mr. Nick (KTUH/HPR)
-- Live painting by the resident artists (past artists include Solomon Enos, Erin McCullough, Kimi Werner, The Storekeeper, Dhyana Zagri, Stanstill, Nabahe, Wes Ka'uhane, Neal Uno, Pancho Abalos, Mike Fresh, Manny P, Patti Bruce, Aaron Char, Mark Agnir, Jeff Lum, Samantha Goldman, Earl Washington, Clinton "Clean" Haness, Sequoia, Carol Tagawa, TJ Howe, Nikila Badua, Jeremiah Skurtu, Sarah Hodges, Hanam Mun, Risa Oram, and Melissa Soriano)

Coming Next Month: the GRAND SLAM FINALS at Fresh Cafe (April 2nd... HawaiiSlam's 12th Anniversary)!! The 12 best poets from the 2014-2015 First Thursdays season will square off in a three-round elimination match to determine the 2015 HawaiiSlam Team!! Pre-sale tickets will be available at this Thursday's (March 5th) show for $12. After this Thursday, tickets will be available at various stores and on our website for $15... so get yours early for you AND your friends!! This will definitely be THE slam poetry event of the year (proceeds from this fundraiser go towards sending the team off to Oakland, CA for the 2015 National Poetry Slam).
