FIRST THURSDAYS: $100 NATIONALLY CERTIFIED SLAM POETRY COMPETITION AND OPEN MIC... An evening of performance poetry, music, and live art hosted by Kealoha. Featuring a "No Rules" slam. Join us this Thursday (December 4th) for a mind-bending installment of First Thursdays at Fresh Cafe!! As always, this HawaiiSlam show will be hosted by Kealoha and will feature:

-- Imani Cezanne, the 2nd ranked woman poet in the world via the 2014 Women of the World Poetry Slam. In the past four years Imani Cezanne has been on four National Poetry Slam teams (San Diego twice, Oakland, and Da Poetry Lounge), three of which placed in the top six at the National Poetry Slam. She has performed on TV One network's Verses and Flow and is the founding President of S.P.E.A.K. (Spoken Poetry Expressed by All Kinds), San Francisco State University's first poetry-centered organization.
-- A special "No Rules" Slam. Collaborations, musical accompaniment, cover poems, props, etc are ALLOWED (poets/performers please see note at the bottom of this email).
-- Turntable Sorcery by DJ Toki (Sisters in Sound)
-- Live painting by the resident artists (past artists include Solomon Enos, Erin McCullough, Kimi Werner, The Storekeeper, Dhyana Zagri, Stanstill, Nabahe, Wes Ka'uhane, Neal Uno, Pancho Abalos, Mike Fresh, Manny P, Patti Bruce, Aaron Char, Mark Agnir, Jeff Lum, Samantha Goldman, Earl Washington, Clinton "Clean" Haness, Sequoia, Carol Tagawa, TJ Howe, Nikila Badua, Jeremiah Skurtu, Sarah Hodges, Hanam Mun, Risa Oram, and Melissa Soriano)

Announcement - Next month's slam will be on January 8th (the second Thursday), and not on January 1st (New Year's Day). Please mark this change on your calendar.

PRESS RELEASE:
HawaiiSlam's First Thursdays celebrates the holiday season with a special "No Rules" slam on December 4, 2014. All team pieces, musical accompaniment, props, etc. are ALLOWED. These slams are designed to break the norm and push the boundaries of live theatrical performance. This event will not be a qualifier for the 2015 HawaiiSlam finals (to be held in April 2015). As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will feature live painters and a guest DJ who will provide turntable sorcery throughout the evening.

Fresh Cafe is located at 831 Queen Street (@ intersection with Cooke Street). Doors open at 7:30pm, and the show starts at 8:30pm. Admission is $3 before 8:30pm and $5 after. For more info, check out the website at www.HawaiiSlam.com, send an email to info@HawaiiSlam.com, or call 387-9664.
