FIRST THURSDAYS: $100 NATIONALLY CERTIFIED SLAM POETRY COMPETITION AND OPEN MIC... An evening of performance poetry, music, and live art hosted by Kealoha. Featuring Jacob Dodson (National Group Piece Champion) and the "No Rules" summer. Team pieces, musical accompaniment, cover poems, props, etc are ALLOWED. Winner of the night receives $100. LOCATION: Fresh Cafe, 831 Queen Street (@ intersection with Cooke Street), Thursday 7/3/2014, 8:30pm. Admission is $3 before 8:30pm, and $5 after. First Thursdays continues its "no rules" summer with another quality show on July 3rd. All team pieces, musical accompaniment, props, etc. are ALLOWED. However, the 3 minute time limit will still remain in effect.

The special feature for this show is Jacob Dodson, an Austin, TX poet who has become known for his forwardness, wit, and irreverent sense of humor. He is the 2012 Head-to-Head Haiku national champion, was on the 2013 Neo Soul nationals team that became the Group Piece national champions and is a current member of the Austin Poetry Slam team. He has won awards at the O. Henry Pun-Off World Championships and has had shows selected for Hyde Park Theatre's FronteraFest Best of Fest lineup. His work has appeared in Pank, The Legendary, High Coupe, Verbatim, Storm Cycle 2013, and elsewhere. As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will feature live painters and a guest DJ who will provide turntable sorcery throughout the evening.

Join us this Thursday (July 3rd) for a top-notch installment of First Thursdays at Fresh Cafe!! As always, this HawaiiSlam show will be hosted by Kealoha and will feature:

-- Music by DJ Toki (Sisters In Sound)
-- Live painting by the resident artists (past artists include Solomon Enos, Erin McCullough, Kimi Werner, The Storekeeper, Dhyana Zagri, Stanstill, Nabahe, Wes Ka'uhane, Neal Uno, Pancho Abalos, Mike Fresh, Manny P, Patti Bruce, Aaron Char, Mark Agnir, Jeff Lum, Samantha Goldman, Earl Washington, Clinton "Clean" Haness, Sequoia, Carol Tagawa, TJ Howe, Nikila Badua, Jeremiah Skurtu, Sarah Hodges, Hanam Mun, Risa Oram, and Melissa Soriano). This month welcomes Rachel Ritchie to the canvas.
